Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Jan. 3, 1956 — N/A Jan. 6, 1966 — Tracy high school’s cagers put the clamps on Slayton Tuesday night and marched to a 58-41 victory over the Wildcats. It was the fifth straight for Coach Dale Hatch’s Scrappers. Tracy had three players in double figures. Glen Withrow and Pat Ford had 13 apiece and Steve Vogel 10.
Jan. 1, 1976 — Snowmobile racer Jack Lau of Tracy finished in fifth place in the junior 150 super stock class of the big Dayco-Holiday Snowmobile Spectacular this past weekend at Alexandria. Lau’s brother, Jeff, did not place but he did beat three professional racers in the preliminary heat.
Jan. 7, 1986 — The Milroy Spartans, behind the hot hands of Mary Jo Miller and Kathy Dolan, trounced Belview 71-24 in a non-conference game played Friday night. The Spartans now stand at a perfect 7-0 overall this season. Miller led the way for the Spartans with 26 points while Dolan netted 24. Sandy Dolan also reached double figures by tossing in 13 points.
Jan. 3, 1996 — The undefeated Tracy-Milroy Panthers ran their record to 8-0 with a 53-32 win over the visiting Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Lady Knights. After an offshooting first half, Nadine Brandt came on to spark the Panthers in the second half. The T-M junior canned two consecutive three pointers in the third quarter and finished the half with 15 of her team high 17 points.
Jan. 4, 2006 — The Panther boys’ basketball team opened the Holiday Hoops Tournament with an 81-71 win over Wabasso Wednesday night at Tracy. Anthony Dolan led the Panthers with 22 points (20 in the second half) and 5 assists; Derek Radke had 20 points (13 in the first half), 6 rebounds and 4 assists; and Taylor Rignell contributed 11 points.
Jan. 6, 2016 — Led by 30 points from Josh Kirk, 27 from Spencer Smith,and 17 from Derek Larson, the Panthers had a banner night offensively in an 83-69 win over Jackson County Central in the Marshall Holiday Hoops Classic.
