Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Jan. 12, 1956 — Jim Prouty and Phil Hassenstab scored 14 and 10 points, respectively but the winless Scrapper basketball team fell to a rangy Pipestone team, 58-44.
Jan. 11, 1966 — Coach Chuck Peterson’s Scapper wrestlers came from behind to stop Pipestone 27-17 here Tuesday night and maintain a 4-1 dual meet record. Scrapper victors included Doug Knuth, Dave Van Meveren and Keith Averill.
Jan. 8, 1976 — Tracy High School escaped the bad weather and rolled to a 36-24 girls basketball win over Lake Benton here Monday night behind the 14-point scoring effort of Lori Stensgaard. Kathy Hemish finished with eight points, and Patti Hook scored six.
Jan. 14, 1986 — It was a battle of undefeateds. Something was bound to give. And Tuesday night in Wabasso, the Rabbits prevailed with a 33-17 dual meet victory over the Tracy Scrappers. Jason Pamp and Wade Landa came up with consecutive decision victories at 138 and 145 to cut the Wabasso lead to 19-15. Tom Byrne and Brian Rothmeier wrestled to’a draw at 165 and the score stood at 21-17. But that was as close as the Scrappers could get.
Jan. 10, 1996 — Panther 189-pounder Rick Johnson kept his unbeaten season alive by winning the 189 lb. class championship at a tournament in Granite Falls. Heavyweight Grant Ludeman was a runner-up and 119-pounder Kelly Schmidt earned fourth place.
Jan. 11, 2006 — The Panther wrestling team downed Dawson-Boyd 40-22 in a conference dual meet at Tracy Thursday night. The win improved Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s season dual meet record to 11-0 for the season. Cole Cooreman, ranked 10th in the state in Class AA at 125 pounds, registered his 100th career victory when he pinned Doug Sharar in 0:15.
Jan. 13, 2016 — The Panther girls improved to 11-0 with a 69-43 blitz of Murray County Central on the Tracy home court Saturday. The red-hot Tracy-Milroy-Balaton squad shot 49% from the field, in sinking 30 of 61 shots. Panther shooters were effective from long-range as well, by hitting 6-15 threes. The visitors managed 16 baskets in 55 attempts (29%). Evy Dolan, who canned 10-11 shots, led TMB with 21 points. Also scoring for the Panthers were Sara Stoneberg, 15; Kendra Ludeman, 8; Gabbie Gervais, 9; Kaylee Kirk, 6; Sidney Karbo, 4; and Hannah Jensen 4.
