The Panther boys’ wrestling team went 2-1 at last Friday’s NRHEG duals.
TMB/WWG opened against highly-ranked Goodhue and fell 40-29. Logan Petersen (121 pounds), Taylor Squires (127), Weston Marten (133), David Schuh (139), and Nolan (145) and Lawton (189) Verlinde earned victories.
The Panthers then defeated Westfield 41-26, with the big win coming from Weston Marten, who earned a major decision over a top 10-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds. Also earning wins for the Panthers were Squires, Schuh, both Verlindes, Tyler Arnold, Nevin Marten and Jack Willhite.
TMB/WWG finished the day by winning the third-place match over NRHEG, 52-24, a match that featured seven pins — Petersen, Squires, Weston Marten, Schuh, Nolan Verlinde and Lawton Verlinde. Jexter Pfarr also picked up a major decision at 160 pounds.
The TMB/WWG girls competed in St. James on Saturday in a large individual tournament that included three divisions: varsity, junior varsity and rookie. The Pantherss competed in the JV division. Placing were Bella Martinez (third at 148 pounds); Evelyn Rentschler (fourth at 142); Ashley Arellano (fourth at 112); Jayda Snyder (sixth at 130); Raelynn Schreier (seventh at 136); and Braya Schreier (eighth at 124) in a 16-person bracket.
