United Way of Southwest Minnesota announces the return of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record on Feb. 26. This annual reading celebration unites millions of voices worldwide to highlight the importance of early childhood literacy and to set a record for the largest shared reading experience. With the help of more than 1,100 volunteers, the UWSWM has coordinated Read for the Record for 11 years, reading to more than 26,000 children at elementary schools, preschools, childcare centers, and libraries.
This year’s book, See Marcus Grow by Marcus Bridgewater, is beautifully-illustrated picture book that honors nature, encourages curiosity and respects all living things. Following each reading, a copy of the book will be donated to the classroom or location by UWSWMN and co-sponsor Great River Energy.
UWSWMN is seeking volunteers to read at a variety of locations including Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine counties, and portions of Cottonwood Lac qui Parle and Redwood counties. To sign up or to learn more, visit www.unitedwayswmn.org/readrecord.
