Panther wrestlers 3-2 across the border

Panther wrestlers 3-2 across the border

The Panther wrestling team finished with a 3-2 record in Sheldon, IA, on Saturday.

TMB/WWG beat Storm Lake 61-13, Sioux Central 62-18 and Sheldon 4735. Losses came to Lodan Magnolia, 53-24, and Section 3A Rival Fulda/ Murray County Central, 51-30.

“We gave up eight pins in that dual, and that needs to be corrected,” TMB/WWG coach Karl Campbell said. “We had 14 weight classes at this event, as that is what Iowa has. That will not be the case next time we see them in a few weeks (Jan. 30). Hopefully we can get all of our starters in the lineup as well for next time.”

A number of milestones were reached across the border. David Schuh (ranked No. 2 in Class A at 139 pounds) picked up his 125th pin; Lawton Verlinde earned his 60th pin, and Tyler Arnold and Nolan Verlinde each recorded their 25th pin.

Each of those four went 5-0 on the day.

The Panthers will continue their busy week today (Jan. 15) at a quad in Marshall. The TMB/WWG girls will take part in an individual tournament in Wabasso on Friday, and the Individual Camden Conference Tournament is Saturday in Canby.

The Panthers are 14-6 and are currently ranked in The Guillotine’s “Lean and Mean” section.
