Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Jan. 26, 1956 — Scrappers earning wins in a loss to the Redwood wrestlers included Al Pool and Ron Hook.

Jan. 27, 1966 — The Balaton Warriors with the help of Carl Johnson, the state’s tallest prep basketball player, defeated the Ruthton team on their home court last Fridav night by the score of 101 to 34. Johnson, a 6 ft. 9-1/2 in. center for the Warriors, chalked up 62 points himself, second highest ever scored in the state. Norm Grow of Foley has the record with 70 points, established in 1958. The lanky Warrior scored 11, 12, 19 and 20 points during the four periods and also grabbed 38 rebounds.

Jan. 22, 1976 — Walnut Grove slipped away with its third consecutive win over neighboring Lamberton 29-26 last Thursday evening in the Logger gymnasium. Logger Jim DeSmilh did his job and pinned Lamberton’s Jim Furth al 1:20 for the final 29-26 score.

Jan. 28, 1986 — Milroy remained perfect Friday night as they added the Ruthton Vikings to their string of victims with a 49-36 victory. The Spartans, who advanced their record to 10-0, led 14-7 at the end of the first period. Sophomore Mary Jo Miller led all scorers with 20 points and teammate Kathy Dolan tossed in eleven counters. Carrie Baartman finished with 12 points for the Vikings and Tracy Rupp ended with 10.

Jan. 24, 1996 — The Panther girls improved their season record to 14-1 with a 57-51 victory over Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield at Okabena. Nadine Brandt and Chris Brink had 17 points each to lead the Panther attack.

Jan. 25, 2006 — The Panther boys’ basketball team upset the seventh state-ranked team in Class AA, Martin County West, 56-54 Saturday afternoon at Tracy. The win improved the Panthers’ season record to 8-7. Isaac Dolan scored 13 points for the winners.

Jan. 27, 2016 — TMB improved its seeding prospects in the upcoming Section 3AA boys’ basketball playoffs with a come-frombehind road victory over Windom Saturday. Josh Kirk led all scorers with 40 points.
