After Weber announcement, Peterson announces candidacy

Nathan Peterson of Jackson last Friday announced his candidacy for the Minnesota Senate in District 21, following Sen. Bill Weber’s decision not to seek re-election.

A lifelong Jackson County resident, Peterson currently serves on the Jackson City Council, where he has represented the community for six years. During his tenure, he has focused on government accountability, protecting taxpayers, and supporting working families and local communities.

As a city council member, Peterson helped secure funding to keep the Little Huskies Day Care Center open for working parents, supported small businesses recovering from flood damage, worked to maintain access to the community swimming pool, and advocated for the creation of an ambulance advisory board to ensure reliable emergency services and strong oversight. His record reflects a commitment to fiscal responsibility, local control, and practical solutions — not government overreach.

Peterson has pledged a zerotolerance approach to fraud in all government programs, emphasizing that taxpayer dollars must be protected and used only for their intended purposes.

He supports strong oversight and accountability to ensure public funds serve those who truly need them — not waste, fraud, abuse, or political favoritism.

Peterson is a graduate of Mountain Lake High School. After graduation, he worked on his family’s farm before building a career as a small business owneroperator in the transportation industry. He understands the challenges facing agriculture, rural employers, and working families because he has lived them. He and his wife, Brandy, have three children and make their home in Jackson.
