Lanoue, Ankrum both net 22 for TMB in 70-44 win
The Panther girls accomplished something Tuesday that haven’t done since Dec. 2.
Behind 22 points from both Gretchen Lanoue and Melaina Ankrum, TMB won their second straight game — a relatively easy 70-44 Camden Conference victory over Renville County West.
“Momentum has been very fleeting for us and hard to be able to maintain and hold on to,” TMB coach Derek Ashbaugh said. “Practice has been better the last week or so, and they recognize what needs to be done differently. It is only two, but hopefully it’s something that we can build off of.”
TMB used five early threes to get things going against the Jaguars and poured things on as the first half went on. Five straight points from Lanoue, a three by Ankkrum, three Taylor Munson free throws and another Lanoue bucket staked TMB to a 38-18 lead with 4:18 left in the first half. The Panthers made 10 threes on the night.
“The last couple games, we’ve maybe only hit five three-pointers, so to have that confidence right out of the gate, to see the ball go in, that was really nice,” said Ashbaugh. “I don’t think it got the the point where we were forcing a lot of three-pointers; I think we took a lot of the shots that were there. We were able to knock them down tonight.”
The Panthers closed the half with a 10-3 run to lead by 26 at the break.
Ashbaugh said having Lanoue and Ankrum both playing well makes a big difference for his team.
“It makes things easier for a lot of the other girls,” he said. “Taylor Munson got some room to operate and did a really good job of attacking the basket. Allie Adams — it kind of allows a lot of other girls to be a little bit more at ease.”

The Jaguars, who brought just 10 players total because of injuries and illness, mounted a mini comeback in the second half when they went on a 10-4 run to cut a 45-21 deficit to 49-31, but TMB responded with an 8-1 run of its own, capped by another Ankrum basket with 9:238 left. From there, RCW was never about to get any closer.
Munson finished with six points, as did Avery Anderson with two late threes. Adams scored five points. Lanoue and Ankrum did plenty of damage on the other side of the court, too, with five and four steals, respectively.
TMB’s stretch of home games continues tonight (Jan. 29) against Southwest Christian, and will host Minneota on Friday.
