Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Feb. 3, 1966 — Gordon Mattson of this city automatically became a member of golfdom’s hall of fame when he made a hole-in-one last week Wednesday morning. Jan. 26. while playing the sunny Evergreen Golf course at Mesa, Arizona. Playing with Gordon and attesting to the unusual feat were Russ Brown of Tracy, Dr. Leon Noy, formerly of this city and now of Redfield. SD, and John Kurtz, also of Redfield, all vacationing in the Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale area.
Jan. 29, 1976 — Lori Stensgaard’s short scoring jump shot with 1:10 remaining in overtime proved to be the winning margin for Tracy High School as the Scrapper girls edged rival Marshall 28-26 here Tuesday night. It was freshman Caria Creager who kept Tracy in the game in the closing moments of regulation play and she also dropped in a basket in the overtime period.
Feb. 2, 1986 — The Tracy Scrappers upped their overall record to 10-3 Friday night with a convincing 8052 whipping of Minneota. With the win, the Scrappers also stay deadlocked with the Canby Lancers atop the Southern Sioux Conference standings with a 6-1 mark. Steve Mickelson was the game’s high scorer with 15 points. John Griffith tossed in 12 for the Scrappers while Mark Peterson added 11 counters.
Jan. 31, 1996 — It was a big weekend for 14 Tracy High School cheerleaders, even though officials split hairs in judging the squad at a major Twin Cities competition. The girls traveled to Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota Campus for a cheerleading competition Sunday “Everyone one of them did very well. It was our first time competing and I am very pleased with how the girls did,” commented Kaye Mathews, cheerleading advisor.
Feb. 1, 2006 — Ashlee Domine had a great game with 30 points, 19 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists and was followed by Alyssa Kirk’s performance with 15 points, 5 assists and 2 steals in a 78-71 loss to MACCRAY.
Feb. 3, 2016 — Josh Kirk blistered the nets for 28 points to lead TMB to a 76-59 win over Lakeview. Kirk scored all his baskets from two-point range, where he was 12-19. He was also 4-6 from the free-throw line. Spencer Smith added 15 points and Derek Larson had eight.
