Feb. 3, 1966 — Letting of contracts for two trucks and other road equipment, approval of beer licenses, and several county ditch matters featured the action of county commissioners at their February meeting held in the courthouse Tuesday. Chairman Blake Nehls of Tracy reported that the Bud Hayes Ford agency of this city was successful low bidder among four to furnish the county with two large trucks at the price of $13,622.20.

Jan. 29, 1976 — Approximately 10 to 15 applications have been received for the superintendent position at Milroy and the district school board will make its first review of those applications at its regular meeting Monday. Feb. 9. Present Supt. Michael (Rod) Gaffney announced plans for retirement last month. He has held the position since 1972 after first serving three months as acting superintendent.

Feb. 2, 1986 — The St. Mary’s parish council voted last week to keep St. Mary’s elementary school open next year. By an 11-2 vote, the Council passed a motion calling for St. Mary’s school to remain open “so long as the budgets are substantially met by the parish.” The future of St. Mary’s next year had been in doubt. Prior to the meeting, it had been announced that $20,000 more was needed on an annual basis to operate the school oh its present basis.

Jan. 31, 1996 — Faye VonBokem is stepping down as Tracy food shelf director. “I served on the Ecumenical church council for over 25 years so that makes for about 15 years as food shelf director. I remember the First Ecumenical food shelf was organized in Carl Steinberg’s cleaning closet at the Tracy Lutheran Church. It was dark in there and we had to climb steps to put away the food,” VonBokem remembers.

Feb. 1, 2006 — The Tracy Area High School one-act play took first place in subsection competition over the weekend. The cast of “Final Exam” competed Saturday in the Subsection 11A contest at Yellow Medicine East High School in Granite Falls. They move on to compete in section competition this Saturday, Feb. 4, in Redwood Falls. Competition begins at 9 a.m. Cast members include Emily Gilmore, Patrick Van Nevel, Dani Thooft, Jacob Gilmore, Dalton Kirk, Bekah Zens, Mai Xiong Vue, Levi Miller Sam Van Nevel and Tara Norstegard. Megan Gilmore is stage/props manager for the production, Sandy Carpenter is director, Sandy Fultz is assistant director, Jesse James is art director, and Karen Ziemke is public relations manager.

Feb. 3, 2016 — It was a night of memorable moments, as the Tracy Area Chamber of Commerce gathered for its annual banquet Saturday. Chamber manager Kim Roggatz received a standing ovation, after she thanked the Chamber board for “letting me keep my job” and supporting her during a year of recovery from breast cancer. “I am so thankful to be in a community where you know you aren’t fighting alone,” the Chamber leader said. “I am happy today to be a breast cancer survivor.” The applause of 145 attendees was just one of many poignant moments at the Saturday night gathering. “I honestly don’t know what to say,” said a surprised Audrey Koopman, after her selection as the Chamber’s Outstanding Citizen for 2016.
