The Panther wrestling team lost to West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville 4320 and defeated Springfield 58-9 and Redwood Valley 45-25 in Springfield on Tuesday.
“West Central is mentioned in the rankings and has been in the top 12 a good chunk of the season,” TMB/WWG coach Karl Campbell said. “The reality is that we didn’t finish matches like we need to in order to beat competition like this. We lost tight decisions against very good opponents at 127, 145, and 285. We were leading at 189 and 215 and got pinned late in the match in both. We finish those two and those are both nine-point swings. Still giving up too many pins as well.”
Against Springfield, Taylor Squires (121 pounds), Weston Marten (127) and Jack Willhite (285) all earned pins. Adam Hippe recorded a 15-5 major decision at 215.
“The three matches we lost in this dual were well-contested matches that we could have possibly flipped,” said Campbell.
Against the Cardinals, Marten, Tyler Arnold (152), Lawton Verlinde (189) and Willhite all earned wins.
Beat Redwood 43-20. They forfeited several matches, but the reality is that we were heavily favored at most of those weights anyway. They have a good team, and have knocked off some very good teams this year including Goodhue, and F/MCC,” Campbell said. “I felt like the team competed better here to close out the event. Every match versus a section opponent is a big dual.”
