Above The Fold papers bring home 9 state awards

Newspapers under the Above The Fold Publishing umbrella garnered nine awards at the Minnesota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest.

This year’s awards banquet took place last Thursday evening as part of the MNA Convention and Trade Show in Brooklyn Park. The Tracy Area Headlight Herald,

which competes against all other non- multiday papers in the state in the 1,001 1,500 circulation division, earned seven awards, including first place for its “Tracy’s Timeline” special section commemorating Tracy’s 150th anniversary. The judge’s comments on the section were, “Very well done...150 years is something to celebrate. Enjoyed reading the ‘making headlines’ section. What a special, ‘Special Section!’” Other awards won by the Headlight include: Second place, Editorial Page as a Whole; second place, General Excellence; third place, Photography Sports Photo; 3rd place, Headline Writing; 3rd place, Use of Photography as a Whole; third place, Typography and Design.

The Tyler Area Tribute won third place in the Advertising Excellence category, and Lake Benton Valley Journal editor Kristina Hernandez won third place for her column writing.

There were a total of 4,102 BNC entires this year.
