From the Dugout

The Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant committee met on Monday Jan. 26, after a short December break.

A few of the items discussed were: Tryouts will be held at the end of March or early April; the date will be posted at a later date. Erin is working on tryout dates and call backs.

At tryouts, there will be an added form for anyone interested in also doing the reenactment in the park at the Walnut Grove Village Fair.

Bill has rewritten the script for “Chasing the Dream;” this year is part 2 of the three-year trilogy. He has trimmed about 10 minutes from the script by removing a scene and rewriting others and a few less lines for “Old Laura.”

The restroom update was to finish a portion of the restroom to make it useable this summer for an estimated cost of $50,000. This would not completely finish the restrooms, but we feel the need to have them open is great. More money is needed so we will happily accept donations in any amount.

There is still a need for a concessions operator/manager for this year and future years. The paid position would require from 73-83 hours approximately per season. If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please reach out and we can get you more information.

Wendy, Rick and Lori have been working on updating contracts and policies. A few things they worked on were the horse contracts, weather/ cancelation policies and the concession stand contract.

Unfortunately, there will be no in person Laura’s Birthday Party this year. Ideas were discussed about future endeavors with the Walnut Grove Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum to have a spelling bee or a reader’s theater.

Ideas were thrown around for fundraisers to raise money to repair and rebuild the aging sets. In particular Oleson’s Store, the Dugout and the Church/School sets. Ideas were a gala, a Dinner Theater (possibly a Mystery Dinner Theater), Silent Auctions. Shalayna, Wendy and Julie agreed to form a committee to work on this and the 50th Celebration in 2027.
