Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

Feb. 23, 1956 — St. Mary’s new parochial school will start its first school term next fall with six grades. Pastor Rev. Richard O’Connor announced recently. Meanwhile, contractors continue to make good progress on the school building and adjacent convent, both of which are expected to be completed in ample time for the school opening in September. Acoustical ceilings and lighting fixtures have been installed in classrooms and this week it is expected that terrazzo flooring will be put down in hallways.

Feb. 24, 1966 — George Hook, who was wounded twice while a gunner in the helicopter service in Viet Nam for 11 months earlier, will return to Saigon next month in a different capacity. He was interviewed recently in Washington, and there signed up as a mechanic with Air Asia. Inc., leaving the States March 19th for assignment in Saigon. A week before his departure he will be married to Maryrose Lamusga at Browerville.

Feb. 19, 1976 — Tom Dobson. a junior at Tracy High School, has been selected to serve an internship in June in the Washington. D.C. office of Rep. Richard Nolan. Selection is made on the basis of high performance and extracurricular activities. He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Homer Dobson.

 Feb. 25, 1986 — A Russell man has taken over the management of the Garvin Co-op Elevator. Steve Negen began his duties last week. Formerly, he was the manager of the Fulda Independent Coop elevator branch in Russell. He managed the Russell facility since December of 1980.

Feb. 21, 1996 — Larry Muenchow is the recipient of a Helen Keller Sight Award for outstanding service in Lionism. The award was presented at a meeting of the Tracy Lions Club this month. Muenchow has served as Charter Member of the Tracy Lions Club; first club president as well as serving one additional subsequent term as club president; and past District 5-M-3 Deputy Governor, Long Range Planning Committeeman and Hearing Conservation Committeeman.

Feb. 24, 2016 — Options are coming into focus for improving Tracy Elementary School’s cafeteria facility. Supt. Chad Anderson, reporting to the District 2904 school board Monday night, stated that ATS&R Engineering had developed five options for adding a cafeteria to the east side of the present elementary kitchen. Those five options had now been narrowed down to 2 that will continue to be explored. If this project is something that can be done, bidding may be done next fall with construction during the summer of 2018.

BONNIE LUDEMAN, Tracy school board chairman, accepts a $6,000 check from Ken Rialson, Panther Booster Club president, in 1996. More than 230 people contributed to that year’s campaign.
