Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

March 1, 1956 — Loren Fetter was announced as winner of the outstanding area farmer of the year award at a dinner meeting of the Junior Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night. This is the second year that such an award has been made by the Jaycees. Bernard Fultz received the award last year. Formal presentation of the award will be made at a Jaycee banquet March 27.

Fetter was chosen for the honor because of outstanding contributions to farming, independence, initiative, and contributions to the community.

March 3, 1966 — Winston Peterson was elected president of Tracy Enterprises. Inc., at the reorganization meeting of the board of directors held at the Neon Inn Friday noon. Peterson succeeds Reed Johnson who during the past two years headed the organization that is primarily interested in developing the business life of the city and community and securing new industry. Other officers reelected to serve with Peterson during 1966 are: Don Stassen. vice president; Dr. D. J. Blesener, secretary; and Ray O’Donnell, treasurer.

March 3, 1976 — The general public, women particularly, are invited to attend the grand opening of Judy Lee’s women’s apparel shop, formerly Mina’s Fashion Shop, Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6. Mrs. Arlin Albertson is the new owner of the Third Street women’s fashion shop, buying the business recently from Mina Anderson. The shop has been renovated, painted and carpeted and stocked with new spring and summer dresses, coats, accessories, as well as Bicentennial dresses.

March 4, 1986 — Two Tracy High students recently received first-place awards in district competition. Junior girls Dawn Coyle and Karla Rehborg entered the FHA “Action Activity” event giving a presentation on Downs Syndrome under the category of “Bundle of Love.” The girls competed against seven other teams from this area on Monday in Slayton. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coyle of Tracy and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rehborg of Currie. The girls will represent Tracy in state competition to be held at the Radisson South Hotel in Minneapolis in April.

Feb. 28, 1996 — The Tracy American Legion is hoping to have a new home by March 1. According to Legion Commander Charlie Pamp, planning is underway to purchase the former Maria’s Cafe near the corner of Fourth and Morgan. “There is nothing final yet. But, the Legion just needs a home. A place for our uniforms and firing squad equipment. We need a place for meetings.” The group does not plan to open its building to the public except for special arrangements. The American Legion has been without a permanent location since it sold the Tracy Servicemen’s Center last February.

March 1, 2006 — A March 27 hearing has been scheduled in Lyon County District Court about the City of Tracy’s aquatic center litigation against an insurance company. The City is seeking $556,560 in damages from the United Fire and Casualty. The firm insured USAquatics, the chief designer, engineer and construction manager during the aquatic center’s 2001-02 construction. United Fire and Casualty contends that their policy with USAquatics does not cover the city’s aquatic center claims. Judge George Harrelson is scheduled to hear the case.

March 2, 2016 — Two major Tracy utility and wastewater projects are still on the horizon for 2016, despite the fact that construction bids haven’t been let for either project. Chris Larson, the city’s consulting engineer with the I&S group of Mankato, hopes that bids for an estimated $32 million of infrastructure improvements project in northeast Tracy will be opened by early April, with construction starting in May.

FHA WINNERS KARLA REHBORG AND DAWN COYLE with Miss Gayle Myhre, advisor. The two Tracy High School students competed in the State FHA competition in April of 1986.
