Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
March 8, 1956 — The Scrappers were ousted from District 9 playoffs by Hendricks, and Balaton smothered Minneota in the consolation games. Milroy blasted Hendricks to win the subdistrict title. Curt Paulsen meshed 16 points for the Scrappers and Lyle Engesser got 14.
March 11, 1966 — Coach Dale Hatch’s Tracy basketball team muscled its way into the championship finals of District 9, beating a stubborn Tyler team 65-45. Steve Stotka poured in 26 points to pace the Scrappers against the Danes. Ken Sletten added 13 points.
March 4, 1976 — Tracy High School rolled into the District 9 championship game against Tyler this Friday after sidelining previously unbeaten and number-one ranked Cottonwood 4740 in an exciting game before a capacity crowd Tuesday evening at Marshall High School. Al Verdoes led Tracy with 13 points.
March 11, 1986 — The Scrappers played defense...and defense....and more defense, and with that defensive impetus the offense was able to rack up 59 points as the Scrappers rolled to a 59-41 District 9 Championship victory over the Russell-Tyler Danes. Doug Hatch had 20 points for the Scrappers, and Steve Mickelson scored 14.
March 6, 1996 — Tracy-Milroy claimed the Sub-Section 3A championship Friday, by defeating perennial runner-up Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 57-37. Leading the way for the Panthers was Nadine Brandt with 16 points. Kris DeRuyck scored 15 and Chris Brink had 11.
March 8, 2006 — The Panther boys’ basketball team was eliminated from postseason play by Windom at Windom Saturday night 77-54. They ended the season with an 11-15 record.
