Just two weeks after scoring his 1,000th point on a three in the TAHS gym, senior Panther Griffin Zick started his final game in the gym with another three, this time in playoff action to start the post season last Thursday. That three and a couple of free throws for Sy Sanders put the Panthers out to a quick lead on their way to a 7260 victory over Adrian Ellsworth Thursday night.
The Panthers, seeded No. 7 in the tournament, saw the 10thseeded Dragons take the lead once, 6-5, about five minutes into the first half. Zick quickly took back the lead with a steal and bucket to give TMB a lead it would never relinquished the rest of the game.
The two teams traded baskets much of the first half, but TMB went on a 14-4 run to take a 10-point halftime lead.
The Panthers continued to score Zick added to his 21 points on the night. Connor Lanoue scored off a Dragon turnover to build the Panthers’ lead to 43-27.
An Eli Lightfoot bucket was sandwiched between two Jackson Kruse baskets, including a three to build a 20 point lead for the Panthers.
A three by Emery Xiong, and another Lanoue steal and bucket built the largest lead of the night for the Panthers at 6038. The Dragons tried to fight their way back, but turnovers and the Panthers defense were too much as the Panthers eliminated the Dragons.
The Panthers were lead by Zick with 21 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kruse added 13 points and eight rebounds. Lanoue had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Panthers.
