Are you ready for some big-time entertainment — and free entertainment at that?
If so, you have to be at the Tracy Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday for the annual Celebration in Song” event.
“I love it,” local music maiden and Tracy Area High School choir teacher Wendy Johnson said. “This year, we’re going to have some amazing talent as always — there will be some beautiful duets, something from “The Phantom of the Opera,” some from Andrea Bocille.”
No, Bocille won’t be singing in Tracy on Sunday, but nonetheless, there will be plenty of talented musicians and singers gracing the stage.
“We also have a few instrumentals … I love it because I am just a music geek,” Johnson said. “I love to accompany people to help make them the best that they can be.”
One thing the audience will notice is that this year’s cast of talented musicians won’t have an abundance of high school students as in year’s past. That is not by design, Johnson said.
“Lately, we haven’t had that participation, but it will come,” she said. “We have a very ambitious 10thgrade class — as ninth-graders, they were just ready to go. They were in the musical, they’re doing solo and ensemble.”
In the past, only seniors from the high school were chosen to perform because so many wanted to be a part of the celebration, Johnson said.
The lack of teenage talent, Johnson insisted, will not take away from the event. And she is looking forward to the community filling the church this Sunday afternoon.
“In the suburbs, there’s so many different venues to go to … when you live out here, and this is the thing that’s going on in the town, the people come out for it,” Johnson said. “The people come out for concerts. When I taught in Milroy, we’d have 300 people come to a concert and there were 85 kids in the school. The community support here is so great.”
Some of the people who will perform everything from a trombone solo to a vocal with harp accompaniment Sunday include Xander Brinkley, Steve Meyer and Connie Knott, Glenn Anderson, Alan Pierson, Joseph and Aubree Cheadle, Celia Brockway-Klein and Caroline Koska, Auron Watson and Samson Obel.
The Tracy Bible Church Worship Team and Tracy Lutheran Church Choir will also perform.
