A Sunday Celebration!
It was an afternoon of hymns and harmony at this year’s Celebration in Song at Tracy Lutheran Church
OBOE?
An afternoon of entertainment inside the Tracy Lutheran Church, that’s what.
The Fine Arts Council of Tracy presented its annual Celebration in Song event Sunday to the delight of a near full house. And while the weather outside was near perfect for March, the talent inside was just as good.
The Obel in this case was cellist Samuel Obel, who besides delighting the audience with a self-arranged medley of “The Sound of Music” classics, teamed with Connie Knott on her oboe in “Two Melodies for Oboe

W and Cello,” an arrangement by A.M.R. Barret. It was, as Obel called it, “the debut of Oboe and Obel.”

The show started with Tracy Area High School sophomore Xander Brinkley’s trombone solo “Garnet,” accompanied on the piano by Kersti Malmberg, who played for a number of songs Sunday.
That was followed by Steve Meyer and Knott’s duet “The Prayer.” Glenn Anderson sang “I Believe in Father Christmas” with Wendy Johnson backing him up on the flute. Alan Pierson performed a piano solo of one of his original songs; Joseph and Aubree Cheadle sang a duet, “All I Ask of You” from the Phantom of the Opera; and Celia Brockway sang two traditional Irish/ Scottish numbers with the accompaniment of Caroline Koska on the harp.
That brought young Auron Watson to the stage, and possibly one of the youngest Celebration in Song artists in the history of the event belted out “The Emperor’s Hymn” on his coronet.
The Tracy Bible Worship Team of Darren Sahlstrom, Pastor Thor Burntvedt, Johnson and Anderson performed “Ride on King Jesus” and “Tremble,” and after Katelyn Elton and Jonny Fales played two flute duets, the Tracy Lutheran Church Choir sang “How Can I Keep from Singing” and “I Will Sing Unto the Lord” to close out the afternoon.
