Former Panther standout and current two-sport athlete at the University of Minnesota Tony Nelson claimed a shot put victory Saturday at the Beach Opener in Long Beach, CA.
The junior, who stands at 6’6” 315 pounds, put a career best 57-8 1/4 on his sixth attempt at the tournament.
Nelson was a back-to-back Class A champion shot-putter for the Panthers. He is also an offensive lineman for the Gophers football team and worked his way into the starting lineup last year.
