Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
March 24, 1966 — A power-packed squad of 22 players, including Carl Johnson of Balaton, Tom Masterson of Walnut Grove and Bob Matzke of Springfield, were named to the 1966 WCCO Radio All-State Basketball Team of the Year.
March 25, 1976 — Seven young men from Tracy will participate in the State Jaycee Youth Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Alexandria. They earned the state berth after winning first place in the regional Jaycee tournament this past weekend at Mankato. An estimated 27 youth wrestlers from Tracy participated in try-outs held by the Tracy Jaycee chapter last week, and from the group candidates were named for the regional tournament. Those wrestlers moving on to the state tournament are Bob Horner, Tom Horsman, Phil Gervais, Jim Trulock, Paul DeVetter, Pat McCoy and Mark DeVetter. McCoy is a student at St. Mary’s School in Tracy; the other wrestlers are students at the public school. Placing second in the regional tournament were McCoy and Jeff Beens. Mark Bosacker, Joe Ruppert, Jack Maertens and Kieran Hannasch were third place finish and Ken Ackerman. Paul Christian and Tim Nelson were all fourth.
April 3, 1986 — Mary Jo Miller, Milroy and Cathy Bassett, Sanborn-Lamberton, were two of 22 outstanding high school athletes named to this year’s WCCO Radio “Prep Parade All State Girls’ Basketball Team of the Year.” The announcement was made on Thursday, March 20, edition of “Prep Parade” on WCCO Radio (AM, 8-3-0, Minneapolis/ St. Paul). “Prep Parade,” now in its 30th consecutive season on WCCO Radio.
March 27, 1996 — The Twister Dance Team recently participated in the Minnesota Association of Dance Teams State Competition held at Williams Arena. The Twisters finished sixth in the Class A High Kick Division, which consisted of 14 teams. Their sixth place was their highest finish ever at the state competition. First place went to Crosby-lronton, second to Bagley, and third place to Aitkin. Over 65 dance teams participated in all classes. Eight thousand spectators turned out. Earlier this season, the Twisters finished second at the Totino-Grace Invitational, first at Dance USA’s regional event. The Twisters thank families and friends for their support all year long.
March 29, 2006 — Varsity candidates for the Panther baseball team are Kirby Arens, Matt Bauer, Paul Carlson, Derek Daniels, Dan Deiter, Sean Fox, Erik Frisvold, Drew Hebig, Tristan Larson, Adam LeClaire, David McCoy, Andy Nelson, Casey Polzine, Derek Radke, Taylor Rignell, Logan Sanow, David Schmidt, Chris Swenson, Derrick Vandromme, Lucas Walling and Ben Ziemke.
March 30, 2016 — Logan Axford closed out his senior wrestling season with two Panther career records. Axford, who was the Class AA runner-up at 145, recorded 29 falls this past year, the most ever for a Panther wrestler in a season. Luke Prairie and Nate Jacob are second with 25 in a season, followed by Zach Campbell and James Prairie with 24. Axford also finished as the Panthers’ career pin leader with 109. Campbell is second with 107. Axford’s 184-37 career record places him second to Campbell’s 225.
