Snow emergency going into effect? Watermain break in your area? Tracy residents will soon receive emergency alerts in a new way after the city council passed resolution 2026-33 — approving a Catalis subscription to their mass notification system — at its regular meeting Monday night.
Currently, the City of Tracy uses Nixel for its emergency notification system. This system will no longer be available in the future, so staff has been looking for alternatives. The system with Catalis meets all the City needs plus some and came at a less expensive cost than other systems. In addition, Catalis is the company that handles the City’s website so staff are familiar with the company.
The new system will allow the City to send more alerts and pinpoint alerts. For example, if a watermain breaks in a certain area, the alert can go to those in the affected area versus city wide.
The staff will receive training on the new system and then inform the public how to sign up for the alerts.
Tracy City Administrator Jeff Carpenter didn’t have an exact timeline but said they’d like to move to the new system sooner rather than later.
The council also approved a state airport fund grant agreement with MN Department of Transportation. This resolution allows the state of Minnesota to accept grant information from the City when it involves the airport.
Board reports were also given on Monday. Librarian Val Quist reported that new close-up prints of the mural at the library have been installed, giving library visitors a chance to see parts of the mural up close. The library will also be hosting a spring craft after the Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt April 4, as well as an adult art showcase in May.
The summer reading program will have a pool theme this year.
Community Development Director Tom Dobson reported that the EDA house is almost ready to go on the market. There were just a couple finishing touches. Some of the exterior work will need to wait until it dries up to be finished.
