Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

April 14, 1966 — The THS baseball team, not in A-1 readiness condition due to inclement spring weather and interruption by the Easter vacation, opens the season playing Slayton there today at 4 o’clock. Makeup of Coach Art Marben’s Scrappers this season includes five lettermen: Roger Helleson. Doug Johnson, Tom Keul, Ron Shaw and Robert Shoeman. Pitching staff includes Ron Shaw, Mike Roeder and Tom Keul; catchers are Roger Helleson, Mike Hook and Dan Lenzen; David Hippe is slated for first base and either Ronald McDaniel or Scott Drever at second. At short, Doug Johnson and Lyle Anderson; third base, Robert Shoeman, Outfielders are Charles Lester, Mike Roeder, Darrell Peterson and Jerry Kathman.

April 8, 1976 — Curt Brasket, a native of Tracy who has held the state chess championship the past nine years, was defeated by Laszio Flezor of Minneapolis. Brasket is the son of C.J. Brasket. Brasket was topped by 4-1/2 points to 3-1/2 in the six man, round-robin finals.

April 16, 1986 — The Tracy girls’ track team turned in an impressive season opener Saturday in the Pipestone Relays. The 1,600-meter relay team of Julie West, Ramona Schreier, Elaine Eschews and Teresa Morin turned a sparkling performance while winning in a time of 4:34.5.

April 15, 1996 — The Panther girls’ basketball team reached the top of the Class A basketball tournament In March, winning the state championship with a victory over Blaine. Next week, the Tracy-Milroy girls will travel to the heights of Summit Avenue in St. Paul. The team is invited to the governor’s mansion tor lunch with Governor Arne Carlson. The Hastings basketball team has also been invited.

April 15, 1996 — The Panthers got just three hits in a 4-3 extra-inning loss to Lakeview. Raleigh Schmidt drove in Jamie Louwagie with the Panthers’ first rust run. Schmidt also scored a run in the sixth inning.

April 12, 2006 — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls’ softball team opened its season at Sanborn Friday with a loss to Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 14-7. Ashlei Carpenter went all the way on the mound for the Panthers giving up 14 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits while walking 6 and striking out 4 with five T/M/B errors contributing to the loss. Stacy LaVoy led the 7 hit Panther attack with 2 hits.

April 13, 2016 — Coach Marie Hanson says that Panther athletes enjoyed many highlights in their first outdoor meet at the season at Luverne last week. ‘There were several great performances,” Hanson said. On the boys’ side, Caleb Lasley placed in the high jump and was an integral leg to the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Spencer Smith ran the fastest leg of the 4x200, and placed very well in the open 200 meters. Cobey Anderson, and 8th grader in his first season of track ran in the 4x800, 4x400 meters,and had an amazing 5:29 for his time in the mile placing fourth amongst many veteran distance runners. Fritz Landherr anchored the 4x400 and 4x800 as well as ran a leg in the 4x200 and high jump.
