Golfers take on Worthington course

The TMB boys’ golf team had their first meet of the spring in Worthington on April 10 with three competing.

Charles Xiong shot a 96; Trenton Johnson had a 109, and Gavin Fischer a 114 — 10 strokes better than his first nine holes.

This past Monday, Johnson shot a 90, which was his best 18-hole score of his career; that put him 49th out of 96 golfers.

“Chipping and driving were his best areas,” coach Michael Munson said. “He was consistent throughout the entire round. He shot a 42 on the front 9, paring all 3 par 3s.”

Xiong carded a 92, which was his best for 18 holes. He had five pars and a birdie on the day.

“He chipped very well and kept himself out of trouble spots,” said Munson. “Charles is such a consistent golfer. Once he gets used the greens, he will be breaking 90.”

Fischer also had his personal best for 18 holes, breaking the 100-stroke mark for the first time with a 96.

“Gavin got off to a lot better start then the Worthington match and was hitting the ball really well,” said Munson. “He also did well on the par 3’s.”

The TMB girls will golf in Worthington on Friday.
