Did you stop by the office Monday morning? If so, did you happen to catch Per or I snoozing at our desks? Or maybe you saw the three cups of coffee I had that morning before my large Diet Coke.
Monday came fast and furious for me this week. Every weekend is fast, but this last one was one for the record books.
We keep busy, but despite all that busy, I really like my sleep. This weekend, Per and I attended events on all three nights of the weekend. Yes, you read that right — all three nights.
While I enjoyed every event, my brain fog on Monday morning might have reminded me how much I need sleep.
Friday night we joined friends for the carnivore night at Painted Prairie. That was a five-star night — good friends, great wine, amazing food. I was so stuffed when I got home, I felt like I could be rolled into the house. It is rare that we have a night that 100% doesn’t involve work, but this was one of those rare evenings, and we both enjoyed it.
After our fun night near Currie, Saturday we headed over to Balaton and their “Bash.” The Balaton Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting, disguised as a bash. I don’t think they disguised it well — the turnout and support was higher than expected. A fun silent auction, good drinks, another amazing meal, awards given to very deserving people, and the night ended with laughs thanks to the comedian entertainment.
We attend a lot of these events because it is part of our job. But we really enjoy them. We visit with people we haven’t seen in a while, sometimes sharing a table with people we only see once a year. But we get to visit and see the true love they all have for Balaton.
Sunday morning after church, the kids and I took a quick trip to Walnut Grove for pancakes served up by the Walnut Grove Fire Department. Pancakes are always better when served by someone else.
We ended our whirlwind weekend of fun at The Caboose for the Southwest Minnesota Men’s Chorus Spring Dinner Show.
I went into Sunday night a little tired. I had spent a few hours working outside. But that show perked me right up. We’ve attended several of their dinner shows and they are always a blast. Anytime you can see men sing and then serve you dinner in a full tux, it’s a fun night. But this show was top-notch.
I really enjoy the chorus, and if you haven’t taken in a show, I highly recommend it. However, this show highlighted some of the younger talent in the chorus. It was so fun to hear these guys perform. There is a lot of talent in our area.
So yes, by Monday morning, my eyes may have been a little heavy, but every yawn throughout the day was worth it. It really goes to what we’ve written about many times — there is so much to do in this area.
This is the time of the year where things get really busy with concerts, sporting events, craft shows, fundraisers and more. Take a moment to choose a couple of these great events and show up. Give support to the talent we have in our area and the causes meaningful to you. This is how we keep our communities growing.
