United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) is proud to announce the launch of the Bright Beginnings, Brighter Futures Scholarship Program, a pilot initiative supporting local high school graduates pursuing postsecondary education at trade and vocational programs, twoyear colleges, and fouryear institutions.
Beginning this spring, UWSWMN will award one scholarship at each participating high school within its service area. This pilot year will help the organization assess community needs, strengthen donor partnerships, and shape a longterm vision that includes expanding to multiple scholarships at every school in future years.
The scholarship program builds on UWSWMN’s decadeslong commitment to youth success. The organization supports early learning through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and helps students start the school year prepared through its annual Stuff the Bus initiative — ensuring children have books, supplies, and tools to thrive from birth through graduation.
The program aims to reduce financial barriers and expand educational pathways, particularly in highdemand skilled trades and technical fields essential to the strength of Southwest Minnesota.
“This program is an investment in our students and our regional workforce,” said Matt Suby, UWSWMN Board Chair. “Every dollar contributed helps open doors for young people who want to learn, grow, and build their futures right here at home.”
The longterm growth of the scholarship program will rely on continued community engagement and philanthropic support. As contributions increase, so will the opportunities available to students across the region.
