THE SLAYTON FIRE DEPARTMENT was called around 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a vehicle on fire inside of Harold’s Service at 2119 Broadway Avenue in Slayton. Upon Arrival, the crews were met with smoke and fire coming out of the front of the building. They began extinguishing operations, and during that process Currie and Lake Wilson fire departments were requested for manpower and equipment. “Due to the construction of the building, it was also determined that we were going to need a ladder truck to access the roof of the structure safely,” Slayton Fire Chief Chris LeTendre said. The Pipestone Fire Department was requested at 12:23 p.m. to respond with its ladder truck to assist with roof operations. The crews fully extinguished the fire and cleared the scene around 4:30 p.m. The fire is currently under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office. The Slayton Fire Department would like to thank all of its partners that assisted with the incident: Currie Fire Department, Lake Wilson Fire Department, Pipestone Fire Department, Murray County Ambulance, Slayton Police Department, Murray County Sheriff’s Office, City of Slayton Public Works, Alex Air Apparatus, Haken Construction, Slayton Pizza Ranch, Chandler Coop and the Slayton Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.
