Jan was born June 1, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI to Norbert and Lucille (Loch) Kampsen. She received the sacraments in the Catholic faith and graduated from Belgrade High School. Early in her career, she worked as a surgical tech at a hospital. On August 20, 1963, Jan married Richard Mickelson and together they built a partnership that spanned 62 years. Their journey took them from Minnetonka and Hutchinson before moving to Tracy in 1970. Jan loved being around people. Over the years, she contributed her talents to a variety of workplaces, most notably at the Red Rooster. Jan and Dick also owned Mick’s East Side, turning it into a beloved local gathering spot for cards, laughter, and good times. They cherished spending their summers in Bozeman, MT and escaping the cold with winters in Bullhead City, AZ. In 2002, Alexandria became their new home base. Jan loved the outdoors and spent summer days gardening, fishing and camping. She enjoyed playing games, cards – especially Bridge – and pull tabs, and was on the bowling league.
