TMB wins second straight, 11-1 over MACCRAY

The Panthers brought some hot bats to Clara City on Tuesday and beat up on MACCRAY in an 11-1 Camden Conference win.

TMB used a seven-run third inning, as 12 hitters batted. The Panthers collected two hits from Melaina Ankrum and Alli Dolan, and hits from Braelynn Kirk, Bella Martinez, Aliyah Loftness, Avery Torgeson and Rosa Vang in the third inning alone.

Ankrum had a two-RBI double, and Martinez, Loftness and Torgeson all knocked in runs in the big inning.

Loftness had already picked up an RBI in the second inning when she drove in Martinez with a triple for the Panthers’ first run in the second, as did Torgeson. TMB added another run in the fifth on a run-scoring double by Gretchen Lanoue.

Lanoue went the distance in the circle. She struck out eight and gave up just a pair of singles.

“Gretchen was lights out in the circle,” TMB manager Karl Cambpell said. “The defense was solid again. Braelynn made a couple of fantastic plays at the shortstop position again.”

TMB will host a doubleheader against YME on May 7 and play in a tournament in Wabasso on Saturday.

APRIL 30: TMB 10, LQPV 6

Melaina Ankrum homered, doubled, reached base four times and drove in three runs to lift the Panthers to a 10-6 Camden Conference win over LQPV in Madison last Thursday.

Ankrum’s second homer of the season was part of a four-run seventh that broke open a 6-6 game.

Avery Torgeson reached with a two-out single in the top of the seventh, and pinch runner Addison Morgan advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lexi Brey scored Morgan with a big double to left to break the tie, and TMB went on to tack on three more runs thanks, in part, to an inside-the-park home run by Ankrum on a laser shot to right.

“We were putting a lot of pressure on them offensively from the onset,” TMB manager Karl Campbell said.

TMB pushed across three runs in the top of the third with RBI coming from Gretchen Lanoue, Aliyah Loftness and Bella Martinez. Doubles by Ankrum and Alli Dolan plated two more Panthers runs in the fourth, and an Alexis Brey grounder in the the top of the fifth scored Piper Freeburg, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

Braelynn Kirk was a homer away from the cycle and scored three runs; Ankrum also scored three runs; and Dolan singled and doubled.

Outside of a rough fourth inning, Lanoue was solid in the win. She struck out five and allowed just four baserunners over the final three innings of the game.

The Panthers turned two 6-4-3 double plays at critical points in the game and had a third double play when Cheyenne Hoffman caught a fly in right field and doubled off the runner at first base, as she tried to get back to the base.

“It was a good win over the current second-place team in the north half of Section 3A,” Campbell said.
