Yankees club Cubs, 20-5, in season opener

The Yankees opened their 2026 campaign with a convincing 20-5 win over the Worthington Cubs on Friday in their 81st home opener at Yankee Field.

David Schmidt led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run; Brock Schultz drove in four runs, while Nathan Deutz added 3 RBI.

The Yankees broke the game open with a nine-run second inning fueled by multiple RBI hits from Aaron Mathiowetz, Andy Schmidt, Deutz, Jackson Hughes and Schultz.

Aaron Mathiowetz picked up the win on the mound in relief. Braydin Kvistero, Bennett Kimman, Mathiowetz, Deutz and Schmidt all had multi-hit games for Milroy.

• The Yankees fell to the Marshall A’s 6-4 on Sunday in Marshall, nearly rallying from a 6-1 deficit. Nathan Deutz homered, and Braden Flock had three hits.

The Yankees play at Bird Island on Friday and are back home against Willmar at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
