FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED A SIZABLE BLAZE for a little more than four hours early Saturday morning. The Balaton Fire Department responded to the call at 121 Lake Ave. North — almost directly across from the fire hall — at about 1:30 a.m. As of Monday evening, the cause of the fire was undetermined. There were no injuries reported. Balaton Fire Chief Kasey Holm said the proximity of the fire to the fire hall almost worked against the firefighters. The good news was, the wind had died down to almost nothing at that time. Garvin, Tracy and Russell all aided Balaton in fighting the blaze, which left the house a total loss. Photo / Tara Brandl
