Well done
seniors!
More than $70,000 in scholarships awarded at this year’s TAHS Senior Awards Night.
LeRoy Johnson knows of the anxiety and excitement the Tracy Area High School Class of 2026 is feeling right about now.
It was 72 years ago that Johnson was in the same situation as a senior at THS — on the cusp of moving on from sometimes carefree high school days and into the first phase of the real world, whether that be a four-year university or a vocatioal school to pursue a twoyear degree in the field of their choice.
“As the years have gone by, we’ve seen the changes in society, and everything is becoming more specialized,” Johnson said before he introduced winners for his scholarship at last Wednesday’s TAHS Senior Awards Night. “Technology is definitely increasing; the day has gone by when you could take a crescent wrench and a screwdriver and practically overhaul an engine. Those days have gone by.”
In light of that specialized training in whatever field they choose to pursue, Johnson offered a pair of $500 scholarships in his name for students who plan on pursing a specified vocational degree.
“Driving home from the Cities (Wednesday) I passed a semi, and on this semi, it said ‘John Deere technicians wanted’ — there’s a tremendous amount of opportunity out there for young people for people to pursue a vocation.”
The recipients of those scholarships were Johnnie Fransen and Avery Torgeson.
Those were just two of the many scholarships awarded last week — all told, scholarships handed out added up to more than $70,000.
A list of scholarships and awards handed out last week and some photos of the recipients can be found inside.

ONE OF THE MOST BELOVED MEMBERS of the TAHS staff, Alex Greenway, was given a nice sendoff at last week’s event. Greenway has accepted the principal’s position at Canby High School.
