Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

May 31, 1956 — Nine persons were hospitalized here following a two-car collision one mile south and three-quarter miles west of the Garvin corner about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. William Fredericks, Tracy, and Henry Blomme, Jr., Marshall, were drivers of the two cars that met head-on at the crest of a steep hill on a township road. Both cars were filled with members of the Blomme and Fredericks families on Sunday fishing excursions. Those injured were William Fredericks, Mrs. Frederickson, Herbert, Richard and Rhonda Fredericks, Henry Blomme, Mrs. Blomme, and Betty and Jean Blomme.

June 2, 1966 — Construction has begun on three road projects in the immediate vicinity that will expedite traffic and provide added safety when they are completed. The projects are at County State Aid Highway; the “bounce” will be taken out of Highway 14 from Tracy to the Garvin Corners; and Tracy’s street department has begun work to put curb and gutter on CSAH 11 north of town.

May 27, 1976 — The Northwestern State Bank of Tracy was high bidder on the old bus garage property in downtown Tracy, and sale of the city-owned property to the bank was approved Monday night by the Tracy City Council. A bid of $9,500 was submitted by the bank while Ken Drever, owner-operator of Ken’s Super Valu whose business lies adjacent to the parcel of land, submitted a bid of $4,100 to the city council. Bidders were required to state their development plans for the property.

June 4, 1986 — A campaign trail that started nine months ago for Tracy native Cal Ludeman will reach a decisive stage this month. After delivering hundreds of speeches and shaking thousands of hands across the state, Ludeman will soon know if he has failed or succeeded in his bid for the Independent-Republican endorsement for the statehouse. The outcome of months of relentless campaigning will be decided June 20 when the I-R party holds its state convention in the St. Paul Civic Center.

May 29, 1996 — A proposal to sell off a portion of Greenwood Park to a prospective home builder was rejected by Tracy City Council members Tuesday. The vote was 6-0 against the park sale. Council member Jan Otto was not present for the vote. The proposed sale was requested by John Rokke, who expressed an interest in building a house on the site this summer. The site is located on Adams Street, just north of the high school baseball field, in the southeast comer of Greenwood.

May 31, 2006 — A ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a replica of Murray County’s first courthouse will be held at the End-O-Line Park on Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. The dedication will coincide with an open house at End-O-Line, during which all attractions will be open at no charge. Members of the Murray County Board of Commissioners, the mayors of Currie and Slayton, and other honored guests will be in attendance.

June 1, 2016 — Margie Nielsen, who has been on the staff at Tracy Elementary School for 32 years, is retiring. She has worked in all grades as a paraprofessional, the most recent being the transitional kindergarten class. This year, however, is her last. Nielsen has retired after the 20152016 school year. Nielsen moved to Tracy due to her husband, Frank, accepting an attorney position in Tracy. While looking for a job, Nielsen noticed the ad for a paraprofessional at the school.
