Klobuchar receives DFL endorsement for governor; Ellison also endorsed

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Saturday received the Minnesota DFL endorsement for governor.

“I am honored by this endorsement, and I’m ready to get to work,” said Klobuchar. “I want to be a transformative governor – I am not interested in the status quo. I am running for governor for every Minnesotan struggling to afford their first home, for everyone who wants affordable health care, and for every parent who wants a better world for their kids.”

Also Saturday, Klobuchar announced that former Fergus Falls Mayor Ben Schierer will serve as her Lieutenant Governor running mate. As a leader in economic development in rural Minnesota, and a former mayor and small business owner, Schierer will deliver on Klobuchar’s plan to transform state government, expand Minnesota’s economy, and create good jobs across the state.

Klobuchar was ranked No. 1 in the Senate for bipartisan bills and number three out of 100 for getting bills passed into law. Earlier this month, Klobuchar released a plan to transform state government to get real results for Minnesotans.

Attorney General Keith Ellison won the DFL Party endorsement for a third term by acclamation Saturday at the DFL State Convention in Rochester. The endorsement comes as Ellison continues to consolidate significant support from key labor and advocacy groups, including MN AFL-CIO, SEIU MN State Council, the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees’ (MAPE) Political Action Committee, AFSCME Council 5, Indivisible Twin Cities, and End Citizens United.
