Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
June 7, 1956 — Box Car Day plans were further complicated this week when it was learned here that Roy A. Raney, whose real name was Bazinet, had passed away. “Raney” had brought his carnival shows to Tracy Box Car Days for 17 years. It is believed that Raney died of a heart attack while on the job. Box Car Day officials expect to contact the Raney Shows office in the near future to see if the organization can keep its engagement. Otherwise, the committee has eliminated a similar hurdle by finding a suitable replacement for Yogi Yorgesson. Yorgesson, noted recording artist, was booked for an appearance here until he was killed in an automobile crash in Nevada on May 20. Secretary Russ Brewster of the committee announced this week that the T.B. Skarning Enterprises, booking agents, have secured the services of “Cannonball” Taylor, a top notch comedian who has had the comedy lead in 147 motion pictures.

June 11, 1986 — Discussions continue regarding a proposal to move St. Mark’s museum in Tracy to the Wheels Across the Prairie museum site. The Tracy Council heard a report from City Attorney Jim Kerr on the legal aspects of such a move. Kerr reported that from his initial research, nothing would appear to prohibit such a move if that was what the council wished to do. Consensus of council members was that they weren’t ready to take any formal action on the proposal. But they indicated they would continue to give consideration to the idea.

2006 — N/A June 8, 2016 — Parishioners at the Tracy United Methodist Church met their new pastor and his family Sunday. Pastor Nicholas Scutari and his wife, Stephanie, greeted people as they filed into the church sanctuary. Their two daughters, Abi, 6; and Zoe, 4, smiled shyly nearby. Congregation members filled out name tags to assist the newcomers in associating names with faces. “We’ve only been here for less than a week and already we can feel the love of the church and the community,” Scutari told the congregation, as he opened his first service. The Scutari family moved into the Methodist manse on Second St. East last week.
