The Milroy Irish waited until the seventh inning to do some damage against Worthington on Sunday, but it was enough in a 4-2 win.
Cubs’ starting pitcher Justin Saufley was masterful for the first six innings, and Irish starter Carson Javers matched up inningfor- inning until the top of the sixth when the Cubs pushed across the game’s first run.
Worthington went up 2-0 in the top of the seventh before Carson Javers belted a solo home run to right to spark the home team.
Craig Lasley shut down the Cubs in the top of the eighth, and then the Irish went to work. Milroy tied it at 2-2 when a Noah Knakmuhs infield single scored Eric Wallen.

“Huge at-bat from Noah, that’s what we need from him,” Irish manager Anthony Dolan said. “But we’ve gotta get going a little earlier than the seventh.”
Later, a check-swing single over the second baseman’s head plated Trevor Smith to put the Irish up 3-2. Knakmuhs would later score when the Cubs committed a throwing error trying to turn a double play.
Hard-throwing Derek Smith slammed the door on the Cubs in a 1-2-3 ninth to preserve the win.
Javers had three hits on the day, and Derek Smith, Trevor Smith, Knakmuhs and Anthony Dolan all had one hit.
Javers struck out seven over seven innings, and Lasley struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the eighth.
