Yankees put up 19 runs in 2 wins

A strong start and a dominating performance on the mound by Isaac Schmitt, lifted the Milroy Yankees to a 7-2 Corn Belt win over Bird Island in Milroy on Sunday.

The Yankees scored three runs right off the bat and added two more in both the third and fourth innings.

That was more than enough for Schmitt, who struck out nine and allowed just three hits in six innings of work. Joey Liebl wrapped things up with three scoreless innings.

The Yankees got two hits from David Schmidt, Aaron Mathiowetz, Brock Schultz and Eli Weedman. Schultz and Weedman both drove in a pair of runs.

The Yankees play at Willmar on Friday, then are back home Sunday for a 5 p.m. game against Wabasso.

Aaron Mathiowetz homered and doubled, and Brendan Flock had three hits and scored three runs in a rain-shortened 12-6 win over the Stark Longhorns on June 12.

Mathiowetz ended up with four RBI for the Yankees, who wasted little time in putting their stamp on this one, with nine first-inning runs. Eli Weedman, Jackson Hughes and Nathan Deutz all had multi-hit games.

Ty Kemp pitched the first 3-1/3 innings for the Yankees.
