Isaac Schmitt was masterful on the bump for the Milroy Yankees on Sunday, leading his team to a 4-0 win over the Wabasso Jaxx.

Schmitt threw six shutout innings, striking out five to earn the victory. Nathan Deutz threw three innings of clean relief.

Neither team flexed their muscle much at the plate, but the Yankees were able to score three third-inning runs.

Brock Schultz had a triple in three trips to the plate and drove in two runs. Alex Schuh had two hits and an RBI, and Jayden Remiger also had a hit and RBI. David Schmidt and Colten Minkel both also had a hit.

The Yankees start a three-game road trip Friday at Sacred Heart. They won’t play again at home until July 8 when they host Minneota. Their final regular-season home game will be July 19 against Willmar.

JUNE 19: YANKEES 14, WILLMAR 2

The Yankees scored four firstinning runs in the first inning, and that was only the beginning, as they added five the sixth and four more in the eighth in a 14-2 win at Willmar last Friday.

Branden Flock, Koey Liebl, David Schmidt and Andy Schmidt all collected two hits. Flock, homered, and tripled, scored three runs and drove in two, and Andy Schmidt also knocked in a pair of runs. Jayden Remigner had three RBI in the win and Jackson Kruse tripled and scored a run.

Liebl started on the mound and struck out 11 in six innings to earn the win.

JUNE 19: JACKSON 6, IRISH 4

The Milroy Irish outhit Jackson on Sunday and played better defense. However, a four-run eighth inning by the Bulls prevented the Irish from a home win.

That inning was the difference in a 6-4 loss at Irish Yard.

“I thought we were poised at the plate and put together good at-bats against a good-pitching Jackson team; we just need to clutch up and get that big hit,” Irish manager Anthony Dolan said.

The teams combined for 22 hits, but it was Jackson that got the timely ones — the Irish stranded 11 runners, while the Bulldogs left just six on the base paths. Also, Milroy’s 12 hits were all singles.

Milroy starter Trevor Smith almost got through the eight inning before being relieved by Craig Lasley. Smith, allowed all six runs while striking out five.

IRISH LEFT FIELDER CARSON JAVERS gave it his all on this flyball in foul territory in Sunday’s game against the Jackson Bulls, but was unable to come up with the catch.

TREVOR SMITH started Milroy’s game against Jackson on Sunday.

“Trevor threw well enough for us to win, but Jackson strung together some hits and had two timely hits to score runs,” Dolan said.

Dominic Dolan, Smith and Carson Javers each had two hits, with Dolan driving in two runs. Javers scored twice for the Irish, who host Lamberton on Friday on Dairy Association Night, which includes a free gun raffle, food trucks, a DJ after the game, and many other prizes and fun things for the kids throughout the night.
