This year’s Unbound: Teen Lit Fair is the mustattend event for this summer! Designed with teens in mind, the Lit Fair is open to anyone who loves reading, gaming, crafting, and creating.
The Teen Lit Fair will be held at Southwest Minnesota State University on Aug. 3, from 1-4 p.m. in the campus upper Conference Center.
Featured Minnesota authors Juliana Brandt and Geoff Herbach will be present to discuss their books and insights about becoming a writer. Author and artist Hector Curriel will share information about his writing and artistic career and will be drawing caricatures of Fair attendees.
On the Midway, visitors can visit with Minnesota authors H.M. Bouwman, Deb Mercier, and Erin Makela, purchase autographed copies of their books. Other exhibitors will include SMSU Admissions, the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, Minitex, Southwest/West Central Service Cooperative, and The Card Farmers.
There will be several tabletop game sessions throughout the event for attendees to take part in.
Other activities including a trivia wheel, blackout & magnet poetry, button and bookmark making will offer the opportunity to win prizes. Thanks to the generous sponsorship, Casey’s will be providing pizza and cookie coupons for attendees.
“Research has shown over and over again that the best way to improve reading skills is to help youth find a book they enjoy. Bringing your kids to an event like this gives them a chance to see a variety of books and meet authors who will inspire them to read,” Prairielands Library Exchange Director Bethany Kauffman says. “Our authors at Unbound write mysteries, thrillers, books about sports, humorous stories, and even ‘choose your own adventure’ style books.
This lineup has something for everyone aged 12 and up. And you don’t have to buy a book at the event to have fun with friends and then head to the library to find something by an author you met at Unbound.”
Plum Creek Library System Director Elizabeth Hoffman adds, “We can offer this event free of charge through the generous support of Prairielands Library Exchange and Plum Creek Library System. Also, with the help of our volunteers and exhibitors! Based on the number of books that check out at libraries throughout southwest Minnesota, I’d say there are lots of people reading!”
Mark your calendars and plan to attend Unbound: Teen Lit Fair, which is sponsored by the Prairielands Library Exchange and the Plum Creek Library System. There is no need to register, and the event is free.
