Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers 

July 5, 1956 — A resurging Tracy Engineer, baseball team came up with its third Southwestern Minny league win Sunday by whipping Tyler 8-1 behind the three-hit pitching of Ken Knutson. Curt Shaw again led the Tracy hitters with three hits in five trips to the plate.

July 7, 1966 — In a barrage of 30 hits, the Tracy Legion team walloped the Garvin team 33-2 in a four-inning game at Garvin last Wednesday night. Big gun for Tracy was Bob Shoeman who hit six for six including two homers, three doubles, and 11 RBI. Other heavy hitters were: Chuck Lester, 5 for 6; Mike Hook, 4 for 5 including two doubles and a triple; and Ron McDaniel, three for three including a double and homer.

July 1, 1976 — After winning the Slayton Women’s Invitational last week, Margaret Johnson of Tracy came home Tuesday to win the women’s invitational tournament at the Tracy Country Club. Johnson carded an 18-hole score of 91 (4447) to win the championship. Dorothy Broomen of Marshall was four shots back with a 95 and Zip Olson of Granite Falls was third at 102.

July 9, 1986 — The Tracy Engineers used the long and the short of it Sunday afternoon in posting a thrilling 9-5 come-frombehind win over Lamberton. The short of it was Ernie Kolar’s one out suicide squeeze bunt which scored Steve Jones with the go ahead run — the long of it was Mark Daniels’ three-run roundtripper to right centerfield to tack on the final three runs.

July 3, 1996 — The Tracy VFW Baseball Team improved its season record to 16-1 with a win over Bird Island Tuesday night at Bird Island 64. Brian Dolan and Jamie Louwagie each had three hits. Dan Frey started on the mound and was relieved by Louwagie in the fourth inning.

July 5, 2006 — The Tracy VFW baseball team topped the Marshall Orange team 3-1 at Tracy Thursday. “We (the Orange) played well but this is a very good Tracy team,” said Marshall Coach Jim Culhane. “It was a well played game.” Marshall got off to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the locals came back with two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth. Brian Schlager went the distance for Tracy, scatting five hits over seven innings. David Schmidt got two of Tracy’s five hits.

July 6, 2016 — The Tracy VFW Baseball team won against Redwood Falls 9-0 on Tuesday. Moses Dolan pitched all seven innings he gave up no runs, the hits, and walked four, while striking out four. Dolan also led the team in batting with two walks, two stolen bases, and two runs scored and finished 1-for-3. Jake Byrne was 1-for-1 with three walks and one RBI.

THE GARVIN HI-FLIERS 4-H CLUB won a countywide softball tournament involving other 4-H clubs in 1986.
