Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers

July 12, 1956 — Southpaw Ken Knutson is keeping the Tracy Engineers in the thick of regular Southwestern Minny play and keeping playoff hopes alive. Knutson hurled a 4-0 shutout over Balaton Sunday. He had a perfect game going into the ninth inning against Dovray before a single by the Dovray hurler ruined a perfect mark. Knutson also had two hits. Lee Brandt had three hits, and Roger Mickelson went 2-for-4.

July 14, 1966 — Margaret Johnson, perennial local women’s golf champion easily won the women’s invitational golf tournament at the Tracy Country Club Tuesday, an event she has won several times in past years. Good putting made the difference, touring the 18-hole layout in 87 with a 44 in the morning and 43 on the second round during the afternoon.

July 8, 1976 — A field of 100 golfers are expected for the Tracy segment of the Tracy-Tyler-Westbrook Golf Tournament Sunday at the Tracy Country Club. Golfers from Westbrook are leading the team competition for the tournament’s traveling trophy. Ric McClellan of Tracy won first place honors in the Westbrook segment of the tournament played last month. Dave Peterson and Brian McClellan of Tracy tied for second place.

July 16, 1986 — Steve Mickelson’s bases-loaded hit in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday propelled the Tracy Engineers over Wood Lake 13-12 in the first game of the Southwest Minny League playoffs. Randy Mclntire went 5-for-6, Heidebrink 4-for-5, Mickelson was 3-for-7 and Jon Haecherl ended up 3-for-4.

July 10, 1996 — Derrick Pinckey had two triples as the Tracy VFW baseball team romped over Marshall by a score of 10-1. Brian Dolan worked six innings and held Marshall in check to earn the win.

July 12, 2006 — The Milroy Legion baseball team lost to MACCRAY at Milroy 5-2 Taylor Rignell started on the mound and pitched 4 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. Derek Radke pitched the last 3 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 1 and walking 1. David Schmidt led the 5 hit Milroy attack with a pair of singles.

July 13, 2016 — Forty-two golfers played in the 18th annual Great Outdoor Lutheran Fundraiser (GOLF) for Shetek Lutheran Ministries held at the Slayton Country Club. The annual event has averaged $5,000 annually, with proceeds supporting the camp scholarship fund. No one won the new golf cart in the holein- one contest sponsored by NB Golf Carts. The winning foursome was Jeff Allen, Zach Fossum, Troy Kepler and Jason Bednarek from Marshall.
