July 12, 1956 — Gov. Orville Freeman will speak in Tracy Sunday, Sept. 2, as a kickoff for the Box Car Day celebration, the committee announced this week. Sunday’s pre-Box Car Day festivities will include a Kid’s Day when the price of rides will be reduced, and Pat DeBlieck, queen chairman, lines up a program for the candidates. Governor Freeman will speak here late in the afternoon. Raney Shows will operate the midway, and the committee is considering other program events for the afternoon and evening. The 4-H clubs have not chosen a queen candidate to date, but the others have been named as follows: American Legion, Sandra Allumbaugh; firemen, Carol Hyllested; Jaycees, Kathy Johnson; VFW, Connie Silver; Kiwanis, Marilyn Campbell; the National Guard, Connie Grinde; and the C&NW Railroad Women’s club, Arlene Olson.
