Local artwork will have a permanent home in the Tracy Public Library thanks to donated funds.
The Tracy City Council on Monday approved the purchase of two pieces of artwork by Nicholas Schleif in the amount of $3,250.
The two pieces are the Edgar Allan Poe and Maya Angelou paintings that were on display during the adult art show this summer.
Schleif’s Edgar Allan Poe piece includes the poem “The Raven,” painted one dot at a time in eight shades of gray to reveal Poe’s likeness. The painting, titled “The Tale Telling Heart,” measures 57” x 48”. The painting was the recipient of the Saturday Visiter Award at the annual Edgar Allan Poe Festival in Baltimore.
The second piece by Schleif is the Maya Angelou portrait titled “The Caged Bird.” It is again done in the dot format on canvas. The text used is her poem, “Still I Rise,” painted in eight colors to render her likeness. The painting is 21” x 27”.
Schielf is a local artist who lives near Milroy and participated in the adult art show earlier this year sponsored by the Tracy Public Library.
The pieces will be purchased using the library’s donated funds which can be used for capital improvements, furnishings and other long-term enhancements that directly benefit library patrons.
