July has flown by, but there is still a chance to take in the Wilder Pageant production of “Chasing the Dream.”
After one of the shows this season, Natalie informed me this is the 25th time she has performed in the show. For me, that means I’ve seen it close to that many times as well.
Yes, mom is there every night and yes, I can tell the little differences. But that’s what I like about it.
I’ve heard people say, “Oh, I saw that a few years ago.” You may have been to the pageant, but you have not seen this show. Every year, the script is tweaked a little. Every year, someone new is playing a different role and brings a different energy to the part. Every year, Bill and the amazing set crew are adding elements.
It is not an “I’ve seen it once” type of production. I’ve seen it 25 times and it is still different. This Friday and Saturday night are the last shows for the 2026 season.
In addition, every time I watch the show come together from the first choppy practices to a full production in front of a large audience, I’m reminded how talented our area is — not just in the pageant, but across our area.
The Tyler Area Arts Council just finished its production of “Anastasia” — another production full of talent and with a live orchestra.
The Lake Benton Opera House is currently in its run of “Into the woods.” I’ve attended many productions at the Lake Benton Opera House and they always put on an excellent show.
It’s not just the month of July that’s packed with talent. Just as studentathletes will be returning to the field and court for the next season, marching band kids will be back to work getting their steps in sync.
The start of another school year means the start of band lessons and choir practices. Fall plays, speech season, one act plays all are quick to follow.
Many times, those on the football field or volleyball court are showered with cheers from their fans. As we enter the next school year, let’s show up for all the other activities that students commit their time to as well. Let’s pack the bleachers to hear the band and choir.
Let’s fill the chairs for the fall play.
Let’s cheer for the TMB marching band as it makes its way through the Box Car Days Grand Parade.
If you take the time to look around, it doesn’t take long to see how much talent is packed into our corner of the state.
