Bus chiefs retires
Jans Visker, Tracy Public School transportation foreman, wonders how many miles he has driven during his lifetime. Now that he is retiring, he may have time to sit down with a pencil and figure it out.
The veteran bus driver recently submitted his resignation to the Tracy School Board. This school year will be his last.
Visker began driving Tracy school bus routes in 1962. In 1979, he was named Transportation Foreman for the district. Before he took on the more time-consuming foreman position, he also spent 13 years driving a rural mail route. After four years in the service, he managed the Cities Service Gulf Station and logged miles while in those capacities, too.
“That amounts to a lot of miles,” he said. “One year, I remember logging 98 trips out of town with just scheduled activities. This was beyond the regular route driven twice a day. Some of those miles were driven over very nasty roads.” Visker recalled.
