“Name that Year” is designed to put your knowledge of Tracy and its newsmakers of the past to the test. Each week, we will publish a news item that ran in a past edition — maybe it was a major event, or a story about a Tracy resident — it’s up to you to determine in what year that particular news item hit the pages of the paper:
• TRACY KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN WILL GO TO SCHOOL TWO FULL DAYS AND ONE HALF DAY EACH during this year’s school year in an effort to save busing dollars.
This decision was made on a split vote at the regular Tuesday evening Tracy School Board meeting. Dan Snobl and Eugene Hook voted against the proposal. In a second measure to save transportation funds, the board voted to eliminate $9,500 from the budget by eliminating one bus route.
Increased fees will be charged for sports equipment. The increased fee will be $10 per student, but will not exceed $30 per sport per family.
In a related issue, a charge of 25 cents per ride will be made for the take-home bus with the charge per family not to exceed 75 cents on any given day. Snobl and Hook voted against the sports equipment fee increase.
Dennis Fultz, the board’s community education liason member, presented the Community Education and Recreation budget for the comeing year. In this reduced budget, Community Education asked for approximately $2,600 from the school district.
