A party to celebrate Arlene Oolman’s 100th birthday is planned for Aug. 16 at Maple Lawn Senior Care Assisted Living. Arlene’s birthday is Aug. 18.

Lincoln County could be asked to contribute an additional $60,757 to Southwest Health and Human Services in 2027 as the sixcounty agency prepares for state and federal cost shifts, rising insurance expenses and new mandated rsponsibilities. Stacey Timm of Southwest Health and Human Services outlined the projected costs during the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners meeting Aug. 4. “We are not looking at adding anything to our budget,” Timm said. “We’re looking to just cover what we’re required to cover.”

Fourteen dedicated athletes from the Elkton, Lake Benton, and Brookings areas brought home championship honors after an outstanding performance at the AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa. The Stateline All Stars Lady Elks, a competitive cheer team coached by Nicole Kruse, claimed first place in the Senior 4.2 Division and were also crowned the Overall Level 4 Champions, earning the highest score among all Level 4 teams competing that day.

Abby Popowski of the Lincoln County Farm Bureau made two presentations Aug. 1 to area farms. John and Dawn Wichern currently live on the Century Farm known as Henry’s Hill for the last 100 years. Also presented was a Sesquicentennial Farm Award for the Jonas Swenson Family Farm, for 150 years in Minnesota.
