Ifinally did it. After coming to work many mornings this summer and seeing cars downtown as early as I unlocked the doors, and reading the newspaper article on the opening of 507 Fit, along with some proding by a friend, I bit the bullet.
Last week, I finally signed up for, and more importantly, showed up for a class at 507 Fit. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the working out I was hesitant about. I used to work out at the YMCA in Marshall regularly when I worked in Marshall.
Since buying the paper, the time I was carving out for myself has dwindled. Then this year came and we took the crazy dive into owning multiple papers. And I thought deadline day was chaotic before. Ha!
The biggest change was that my time for myself was nonexistent. I get up early so I can get stuff done before the busyness of the day, which is exactly why my dear friend proded me to check out 507 Fit. Her words were simple: “You never do things just for you.”
Her promise was even better: “Just go. And then you can start the chaos of your day, but you’ll already have worked out. You won’t have to think about it at the end of the day, especially when you don’t know when it will end.”
So I did just that. When I arrived at my first class at 5:15 a.m. my thoughts were, “I do not want to be here.” But I showed up and walked inside.
The first time you enter a new workout area or a new class, it’s intimidating. Everyone else seems to know what they are doing, how things go, etc. You feel a little lost. I felt that for exactly 30 seconds.
That was the biggest thing about 507 Fit. It was 1,000% welcoming. The class was full of a wide variety of people all with a common goal: move their bodies. And, of course, sweat.
The heat in that room is no joke. But my muscles recovered so much quicker than before. When I left after that first class, I felt fantastic. Not because I was magically in shape. Not because I had survived and not passed out in front of a room full of people, but because I had taken time for myself.
My first thoughts of the day weren’t my to-do list. Honestly, you can’t focus on anything but the class when you’re in there. Before I even started the chaos of the day, I had gotten a good, sweaty workout in.
I enjoyed it so much I went back three days in a row. Unfortunately (or fortunately for Marin’s business) the classes fill up, and based on my schedule, I was able to waitlist for one class this week and get scheduled for one. That’s OK, too, because I want to make it manageable in my world.
By the third class, Brady even joined me. If you’ve thought about testing it out, I am encouraging you to give it a try. It is worth the early morning time and the sweat. And the cold towels at the end are the best!
In addition to that, how lucky are we to have another great business in downtown Tracy?
