Excerpts from past Tracy newspapers
Aug. 23, 1956 — Tracy’s horseshoe team lost to Westbrook in the final round of Southwestern Minnesota horseshoe league playoffs by a 1213 to 1086 score. Whitey Engesser was high for Tracy with 94 ringers, Wilbur Paetzel had 90 and Fred Sass had 87. Archie Anderson of Westbrook had 91 in three frames.
1968 — N/A Aug. 19, 1976 — Tracy High School’s long and hard battle to find a conference “home” ended this week when the present seventeam Little Sioux Conference announced plans to accept Tracy and two other schools into the conference. Since the late 1950s, Tracy has worked constantly to obtain a new conference affiliation. Scheduling games in all sports has become especially difficult today since the school is of “ independent” status.
Aug. 27, 1986 — Mike Nelson was the happy winner Sunday of the annual men’s match play tournament at the Tracy Country Club. Other flight winners are Con Rettmer, first flight; Keith Engesser, second flight; Spec Shoeman, third flight; Chuck Pinckney, fourth flight.
Aug. 21, 1996 — The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has published a pre-season ranking for the 299 Class A volleyball teams. Defending champions Tracy-Milroy holds down first place with Stewartville #2, Holy Angels #3, BOLD #4, St. James #5, Perham #6, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial #7, Central Minnesota Christian #8, United South Central #9 and #10 was a tie between Fosston, Hermantown, New London-Spicer and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Five of the teams listed are from the southwestern part of the state.
Aug. 23, 2006 — Thirtyseven golfers competed in the annual Men’s Club Tournament at the Tracy Country Club Saturday and Sunday. In the Championship Flight, David Engesser easily outdistanced the field by turning in a five under par 175 for the 45 holes played. “I played with David when he shot his 69 on Saturday and he was just awesome,” said fellow golfer Jeff Lau. “I ruined my game by trying to keep up with him from the tee, and his short game is his strong suit.” Jack Lau and Keith Engesser tied for second in the championship flight with 195s. Bruce Lerohl was fourth with a 199.
Aug. 24, 2016 — Returning letter winners for the TMB cross-country squad are Sarita Hook, Ashton Horner, Taylor Schmidt, Brooke Christian, Makala Lemburg, Austin Axford, Katlyn Wieme, Courtney Horner, Logan Axford and Hannah Brockway.
