Aug. 23, 1956 — At a special meeting Monday night, the board of education acted the bid of Salmon Chevrolet Co. for a new 1956 42-passenger Superior school bus. The price was $4,700. A used 1949 Ford bus was sold for $1,200.

1968 — N/A Aug. 19, 1976 — Wilfred Loosbrock and Felix Lingen nearly drowned last week in Owanka Bay of Lake Shetek after their canoe tipped over when one of the men reached to retrieve his dog. Lingen, who was wearing a life jacket, clung to the canoe and eventually swam safely to shore, but Loosbrock, a nonswimmer, became frightened even though he, too, was wearing a life jacket. Both men began crying for help. Rolf Hage of Westbrook heard their calls; his wife altered Mark Lichty, a lifeguard at the Tracy Community Pool, and he dove into the lake to rescue the pair.

Aug. 27, 1986 — Eleven young women will vie for the Tracy Junior Miss title Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Tracy High School. Aug. 21, 1996 — Bill Miller remains hospitalized following an accident which downed his crop-dusting airplane Friday afternoon near Tracy. On Tuesday afternoon, the rural Amiret flier was in stable condition at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, waiting to undergo surgery to relieve pressure caused by injured vertebrae. Family members, thankful that his injuries weren’t worse, said that Miller was doing about as well as could be expected. The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m., in Springdale Township, three miles north and three miles east of Tracy. Miller, operating out of the Tracy airport, was spraying grasshoppers in a stubble field of barley. Flying in a north and south pattern, and dipping underneath power lines south of the field Miller’s plane inadvertently clipped a power line.
Aug. 23, 2006 — Holly Township is planning to build a new town hall, and is offering to give away its existing building. “We just want to have a building that is up to code and can accommodate people who can’t get up the stairs,” said LaMoine Meyer, Holly Township clerk. A classified ad offering to give the building to someone willing to move the structure has been running for several weeks Meyer said he has had a few calls, but nothing definite has turned up.
Aug. 24, 2016 — Doris Hemish remembers standing on the edge of a farm grove with her husband Gordon, and watching an airplane swoop low to spray one of their fields. “The airplane went back and forth over the field just exactly right, it was amazing.” When the entire plot had been sprayed, the airplane pulled up, and when it reached flying altitude, the pilot tipped its wings. “It was then that you knew that Jim Arnt was the pilot of the plane,” Mrs. Hemish reflects. “He was the only pilot that did that.” Arnt, a 1966 Tracy High School graduate, is being remembered by many this week. The son of Henrietta Arnt and the late James Arnt of Tracy, died in an aerial crop-spraying accident west of Ruthton Friday morning.
